Breast Lift

{Procedure} at a Glance

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and tightens surrounding tissue to reshape and reposition your breasts to a more youthful position. Sometimes, the size of the areola (the darker skin around the nipple) can also be reduced during the surgery. A breast lift can also be combined with breast augmentation to address shape and add volume. At Amelia, a breast lift includes bra line liposuction as need for better shape at no additional cost.

Overview

A breast lift reshapes and elevates sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to create a more youthful and lifted contour.

Recovery
Benefits

Patients typically plan for 7-10 days of downtime. You may have lifting and water submersion restrictions for 6 weeks.

Results

Though you’ll likely see improvements right after surgery, many patients see their breast lift results develop over the first year post-op.

Key Benefits of {Procedure}

Am I a good candidate for {procedure}?

You might be a good candidate for a breast lift if you're concerned by one or more of the following:

  • Sagging breasts that have lost their shape and firmness.
  • Nipples that sit below the breast crease when the breasts are unsupported.
  • Stretched skin and enlarged areolas.
  • Breasts that feel long and hang lower than you'd like.
  • Your breast size is comfortable, but the shape and lift are not.

What do {procedure} scars look like?

breast lift lollipop scar - mastopexy lollipop scar

Lollipop Lift Scar

The lollipop lift scar goes around the areola and down the center of the breast, kind of like a lollipop! The breast tissue from the lower part of the breast can either moved up to the center or removed to make the breast a little less heavy.

breast lift anchor scar - mastopexy anchor scar

Anchor Lift Scar

An anchor lift scar goes around the areola, down the front, and along the breast crease. This type of lift removes the most loose skin to reshape the breast and reposition the nipple.

breast lift donut scar - donut scar mastopexy

Donut Scar

The donut lift scar circles around the areola and is typically only used in tuberous breast cases.

{Procedure} Types

The {procedure} type for you is the one that will be the most successful in helping you achieve your goals. A good relationship with a good plastic surgeon will allow you to talk through your options based on your unique anatomy and goals.

Anchor Lift

Like the lollipop, the breast tissue from the lower part of the breast can either be moved up to the center or removed to make the breast a little less heavy. The anchor lift is most useful for very large breasts or in those with a significant amount of excess skin.

  • Uses an additional horizontal incision that follows the natural breast fold
  • Typically better suited for individuals with large breasts and/or significant skin laxity
  • Removes excess skin, addresses nipple placement with the option to resize the areola

Donut Lift

The donut lift scar circles around the areola and is typically only used in tuberous breast cases. Though this scar is the smallest of the three types of lifts, it’s the least common type of lift because it doesn’t reshape the breast as well as the other types and puts a lot of tension on the areola. As a result, the areola can stretch out over time.

  • Least common of all the lift types
  • Changes nipple position, but with minimal reshaping of the breasts
  • Has a higher risk of resulting in a very large areola

What is an auto-augmentation?

Auto-augmentation is a surgical technique used during a lift to maintain the size of the breast by repositioning the tissue from the bottom of the breast to the middle. Did you know you have a choice when it comes to the final steps of a lollipop and anchor lift?

  • Keep the breast the same size with an auto-augmentation.
  • Make the breast about one cup size smaller by removing the breast tissue from the bottom.
