Position Summary
The Surgical Operations Lead serves as a key operational resource for the surgical practice, supporting the development, opening, and ongoing operation of the practice’s operating room.
During the OR development and startup phase, this position will serve as the primary onsite point person for surgical equipment, supplies, inventory, deliveries, room setup, and operational readiness. The role will work closely with practice leadership, vendors, clinical staff, and the surgical team to help ensure the operating room is appropriately equipped, organized, stocked, and prepared for successful opening.
While the practice's operating room is being developed, the Lead Surgical Technologist will also scrub with Dr. Sandhu at outside surgery centers on scheduled operative days, helping establish surgical preferences, workflows, instrumentation needs, and supply requirements that can ultimately be incorporated into the new OR.
Once the practice's operating room opens, this role will transition into an ongoing lead surgical technologist and surgical operations position, combining direct surgical support with ownership of inventory, supplies, equipment readiness, and day-to-day OR organization.
Success in this role means the operating room is organized, stocked, prepared, and operationally ready; supplies and equipment are available when needed; surgeon preferences are understood and consistently supported; and issues are identified before they disrupt patient care or the surgical schedule. This person becomes a trusted point of contact for surgical operations, helping create efficient workflows, maintain strong inventory control, and support a smooth transition from OR startup into daily surgical operations.
Role Evolution
This position is intentionally designed to evolve with the surgical program.
Prior to OR opening: Primary focus will include OR setup and readiness, inventory and supply coordination, vendor and delivery management, and scrubbing with Dr. Sandhu at outside surgical facilities.
At OR launch: Focus will shift toward implementation of established workflows, stocking and inventory management, surgical case support, troubleshooting, and ensuring consistent day-to-day operational readiness.
Ongoing: The position will function as the Lead Surgical Technologist with continued responsibility for surgical inventory, supplies, instrumentation, OR organization, and operational improvement as the practice and surgical volume grow.
