Before joining Amelia Aesthetics, Dr. Hunter served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where he also held leadership roles as Microsurgery Program Director and Associate Residency Program Director. In these positions, he trained future plastic surgeons and contributed to academic advancements in reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Hunter is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and maintains hospital privileges at Duke Raleigh Hospital, where he performs plastic surgery procedures. He is also a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, an honor awarded to physicians recognized by their peers for clinical excellence.
Dr. Hunter completed his integrated plastic surgery residency at Stanford University Medical Center, one of the nation’s most respected training programs in plastic and reconstructive surgery. He then pursued advanced subspecialty training through a Reconstructive Microsurgery Fellowship at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he gained expertise in complex microsurgical techniques and advanced reconstruction.
He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Duke University School of Medicine, where he was recognized as a Dean’s Tuition Scholar, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with Highest Honors, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. During his academic training, Dr. Hunter was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and Phi Beta Kappa, reflecting his longstanding dedication to excellence in medicine and research.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Hunter contributes to the medical community as a Medical Case Expert Reviewer for the North Carolina Medical Board and has previously served as a physician reviewer for the Medical Review Institute of America. His expertise is frequently sought for peer review and clinical evaluation.
Dr. Hunter has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications and book chapters in leading medical journals and textbooks, contributing research on reconstructive microsurgery, breast reconstruction, wound healing, and complex surgical techniques. His work has been presented at national and international plastic surgery meetings.
He is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Medical Association, and he remains committed to advancing the field of plastic surgery through ongoing education, research, and patient care.
